Welcome

Thank you for visiting the website of Paul Carroll, a freelance musician, sound technician and project manager specialising in delivering creative music workshops in special needs and mainstream education and community settings for children, young people and adults.  Also on offer are good quality audio recordings, technical support and live PA solutions for bands and community arts organisations.

By clicking on the links at the top of the page, you can look at Paul’s CV, listen to some of the music that has been created as a result of his work and find out more information about what is on offer and how to get in touch.

Paul is based in Birmingham, UK and plays drum kit, guitar and keyboards but the main attraction is the music technology called Soundbeam, which enables music and soundscapes to be created easily through the use of movement sensors and switches.  With Soundbeam, music and sound can be made by people of all abilities without touching a thing, with movements as small as a wiggle of a finger or as big as the leap of a dancer.

Projects of varying sizes have been undertaken.  For example:

  1. a three-year research and school staff training programme in Mayfield Special School for Creative Partnerships
  2. term-long transition (primary to secondary school) projects for Sound Futures Youth Music Action Zone
  3. ongoing involvement in the Musical Connections project, working for Sound It Out Community Music supporting adults who are isolated through mental illness or physical disability
  4. a shorter intensive integration (special needs and mainstream) project with Big Brum Theatre in Education Company
  5. one-off fun musical activities with early years children and their parents or carers for Birmingham artSites
  6. management of the fundraising, financial and practical aspects of projects delivered in a broad range of areas such as refugee and asylum-seekers, physical disability, mental illness, healthcare, early years and young people.

Paul’s technical work includes the following:

  1. recordings at the Drum Arts Centre, Aston
  2. casual Performance Technician at the Midlands Arts Centre (mac), Edgbaston
  3. sound engineering and technical support for education projects with DanceXchange, Birmingham Jazz and Sound It Out Community Music
  4. With Paul’s portable equipment, professional recordings can be made at the location of your choice, even outdoors.

So, feel free to browse and if you would like to discuss how Paul may be able to support you in achieving the aims and objectives of your organisation, project or event, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
